Julie Nakatani was born in Tokyo, Japan. She came to the United States in late1950’s and grew up in San Francisco. She graduated from San Jose State University and currently resides in Cupertino.While still in grammar school, Julie began studying Ikenobo Ikebana, and continued to take lessons from her mother, Kinsui Saiki. At regular intervals since 1970 she has taken several courses at Ikenobo Headquarters in Kyoto. She holds the teaching degree Senior Professor Fukusokatoku, rank #17.Her flower name is Misui which was given to from her mother Kinsui. She has demonstrated many times for various groups including the Cherry Blossom Festival, Ikebana International, Ikebana Teachers Federation, Buddhist Obon Festivals, San Mateo County Fair, and other cultural art clubs. Her work has been displayed at Bouquet to Arts, Asian Art Museum, Ikebana International, Ikenobo Ikebana Northern California Chapter, Tanabata Ikenobo Exhibitions, Buddhist Temple Obon Festivals, Nikkei Matsuri and San Mateo County Fair. Julie serves as President of the Ikenobo Ikebana Society of Northern California, President of Ikebana Teachers Federation and a member of Ikebana International. She Julie teaches ikebana at her home in Cupertino.
